A portable sewing table is a great piece of furniture for any user of a sewing machine to have. Especially if you do not have an entire room to devote to sewing, a portable sewing table can make it possible to easily move your sewing in or out of your family room, kitchen, bedroom, or walk-in closet . . . wherever you want to do your sewing and store away the equipment afterwards. A portable table for your sewing machine can be as straightforward as a desk on wheels, or it can have many of the nice features that sewing furniture has, like airlift to lower your machine below the work area and drawers and cabinets to hold sewing accessories. Most sewing tables will also have an extension of the table top that can be raised when a greater area is needed for handling the feed of fabric through your machine. When fully assembled, extensions can also double as work space for cutting and pinning fabric pieces and for attending to details in other crafts.

There are two ways that a sewing table can be made portable. The first format is the table to have wheels or casters that make moving the table with anything on it a breeze. In this situation you have the convenience of storing your machine with your table without the need to pick up and carry your machine in our arms somewhere else. There are also often drawers or a door with niches to store thread, notions and other accessories. Most sewing machine cabinets are portable in this way. The second way a table can be made portable is to be a folding table, like a card table or ironing board. These kinds of tables can store very flat and have the advantage of taking up little space in a closet or under your bed or sofa. They are also easy to carry up or down stairs.

One example of a sturdy folding portable sewing table is the Regal R33 Folding Table made by Horn of America. This table can be used for freearm or flatbed sewing. It also works fine for quilting or for serging. The dimensions are 41 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 27 inches in height. When a sewing machine is sitting on top of the table, you can raise an area on the left side of the table and swing it into position to sit flush with the sewing deck of your machine. This makes a large flatbed area for sewing. When this part of the table is raised the highest part of the table is 31 inches high. This is a lightweight table of only 42 pounds and when folded flat it is less that 4 inches high. The melamine surface comes in three finishes: white, white with oak trim and sunset oak. The corners are safely rounded.
